Ellam Avan Seyal: First film to use spot editing Prasanna Singh [November 12, 2008, 3:52:05 PM]First, it nailed everyone’s attention for having ten female leads. Now, it is turning heads for its distinction in technology. Ellam Avan Seyal, a murder mystery directed by Shaji Kailash, is India’s first film to use spot editing technology! Simbu’s Silambattam is also employing this technology, but the distinction of being the first to employ this technology goes to Ellam Avan Seyal. What is spot editing? Well, the title is self-explanatory! Editing on the shooting spot is referred to as spot editing. Using special software, the just-shot film sequence will be mixed with the right amount of light, dialogues and sound effects right on the shooting spot. If the desired results are obtained, the scene is retained; if not, it can be edited in the lab for further enhancement or it can even be re-shot if necessary. The biggest advantage of this method is that it saves time and removes last-minute tension. Since the director and editor are able to view how their product would look on the silver screen right on the sets, they have the freedom and scope to enhance it manifold.Ellam Avan Seyal is produced by Karumari Kandaswamy and J. Dhurai who made Karagattakkaran, one of the evergreen classics of Kollywood. It stars R.K. of Thoondil fame, Malayalam actress Bhama, and nine Mumbai models! Vadivelu, Ashish Vidhyarthi, Nasser, Manivannam, Visu, Manoj K. Jayan and Thalaivasal Vijay form the supporting cast.Music is by Vidyasagar and lyrics are by Vairamuthu. Rajarathinam is the cinematographer. Pokkiri’s dialogue writer Prabhakar has written the dialogues of this film.
